Browse by CD1 isoform
The CD1 family is categorized into five groups or isoforms based on sequence and functional attributes, and intracellular trafficking: CD1a, CD1b, CD1c, CD1d, and CD1e. CD1 molecules are part of the MHC Class I family of molecules, but present lipids rather than peptide antigen. Unlike classical MHC Class I molecules they are non-polymorphic.
Each group, while sharing a common overarching function of lipid antigen presentation, possesses unique characteristics that influence the repertoire of the lipid antigens they can bind and present, as well as their interactions with specific T cell populations.
